PURE Yoga Institute Graduating Class: July 2018
Practicing Bikram Yoga Since: 2007
Aug 2018 to Present | Austin, TX | 50+ Classes | PURE Yoga Texas | Austin
I took my first Bikram class in 2007 in Chicago and began practicing regularly in 2012 in Austin after the birth of my second child. I enjoyed the consistency and structure of the practice. The best/biggest part of this yoga is that I change around the practice. It’s what I take and learn from those changes that makes it yoga!
I spent my professional career as a Physical Therapist before having my two wonderful boys, so teaching was a natural segue and goal for me. Teaching had always been in my mind since I began practicing regularly. Like in Physical Therapy, I feel connected and accomplished by interacting with my community and helping others.
Yoga has really helped me with self-acceptance, self-love, and being okay with what I see in the mirror. Yoga can mean many different things to many different people. The following quote rings very true to me and I hope it can give you some perspective into my view of yoga:
“Yoga is not about being flexible. Yoga is about showing up on your mat daily with no expectations of how it should go. It’s about not believing the labels like “too injured” or “too old” and finding a new way to be the best version of yourself. Yoga is a lifestyle, not an exercise program – although, yoga has no judgement if you only want to use the poses to exercise. Yoga is about discovering that those crazy thoughts in your head about why you ‘can’t’ or ‘shouldn’t’ are not true. It’s about slowing down and seeking something greater than yourself. Yoga is more than what you wear or if you can handstand.
Yoga is the ultimate practice of love.”
